In what universe is Wonder Woman blonde? Sheldon Cooper, a character on one of my favorite shows, The Big Bang Theory, said that, but I never watched that episode before I decided to go by the nickname. I wrote a piece for The Mighty
How I Relate to Superheros Because of My MS and someone said a similar thing to me. In the piece, I compare myself to Wonder Woman. They said, "but you can't be Wonder Woman...she has dark hair." I said, "I can be anything I want." I think that really describes my vision for this site. I hope to help others be anything they want despite MS or other chronic diseases. MS has taken a lot from me including my ability to use my hands to type and I thought I would have to give up writing and running forever - two things that I can't live without. But, I've learned to use voice to text software to write...and there is absolutely nothing wrong with my legs....my disability is all upper body, so I'd only be giving up running because of my fear of what other people think. Not anymore. I could have been told I have an illness that means I will die in a month, but I wasn't. MS will not likely kill me. I do know what it feels like to be in so much pain with no hope of it ending and wanting to die. So, I see my MS symptoms as reminders to keep living the best I can.
I was on NBC Dateline after helping expand the medical cannabis law in Virginia! Click here to watch.
